If you’re a Munster area resident looking for a more contoured belly, you might be wondering which plastic surgery procedure is right for you – liposuction or a tummy tuck. You might also might be wondering, what’s the difference between the two? Why would I choose one over the other? What type of results can I expect to see with each procedure?
Well, you’ve come to the right place. Munster board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Frank of Robert Frank Plastic Surgery has performed thousands of liposuction and tummy tuck procedures during his 20 years in private practice. He is here to answer all your questions about liposuction, tummy tucks and the differences between the two.
What is Liposuction?
Liposuction is a body sculpting procedure in which fat is suctioned out of your problem areas, such as your abdomen, hips or thighs. With liposuction of the abdomen, small incisions are made, then a fluid is injected into the treatment area to anesthetize it, restrict blood vessels and break up fat cells. After that, a small tube called a cannula is inserted into the incision sites, and used to suction out fat.
Who is the Ideal Liposuction Candidate?
Liposuction is a body sculpting surgery, not a weight loss procedure. Because of this, the ideal liposuction candidate would be close to his or her goal weight and have stubborn fat deposits that just won’t go away with proper diet and exercise. Liposuction treats fat deposits, only. It will not treat cellulite, loose or sagging skin or result in significant weight loss.

What is a Tummy Tuck?
A tummy tuck is a surgical procedure to remove unwanted fat, loose skin and sagging skin in the abdomen. It is also used to repair separated abdominal muscles, which are common after pregnancy, and can cause a “pooch.” With a tummy tuck, an incision is made along the bikini line, and unwanted fat and skin are removed. If the abdominal muscles are separated, Munster plastic surgeon Dr. Frank will carefully stitch them back together. The belly button is often repositioned with a tummy tuck, too.
Who is the Ideal Tummy Tuck Candidate?
The ideal candidate for a tummy tuck is a Munster area resident who has lost a significant amount of weight but still has excess fat, or loose or sagging skin in the belly. Tummy tucks are an extremely popular surgery for women after they are finished with childbearing, and are
often part of the ever popular “Mommy Makeover” procedure (in which both a tummy tuck and breast augmentation and/or breast lift are performed).
