If you’re a Munster resident considering liposuction, you probably have a lot of questions. How does liposuction work? What type of results can you expect from liposuction? What will your body look like after your procedure? And how much fat can be safely and comfortably removed in a single liposuction session? Read on as board-certified plastic surgery Dr. Frank of Munster’s Robert Frank Plastic Surgery answers these questions for you.
How Does Liposuction Work?
Liposuction works by removing stubborn fat that just won’t go away no matter how well you eat or how often you hit the gym. Liposuction begins with Dr. Frank making small incisions in the treatment area, then injecting a fluid to anesthetize the treatment area, restrict blood vessels and loosen up fat cells. Then, a small tube called a cannula is inserted into the incision areas and used to suction out fat cells.
Liposuction permanently removes fat cells. They will never grow back. However, there is no limit to how much fat a fat cell can store. This means that adjacent fat cells can enlarge if you gain weight in the future, changing your liposuction results.
Liposuction is Ideal for Removing Stubborn Fat Cells.
The ideal liposuction patient would be one who is close to his or her goal weight or goal look for a particular area of the body but has stubborn fat deposits that just won’t go away with a healthy diet and regular exercise. For these Munster patients, liposuction can reshape and re-contour problem areas, providing them with a more appealing physique.

How Much Fat is Removed with Each Liposuction Treatment?
Liposuction is an effective treatment for reshaping the body to a more aesthetically pleasing appearance. But it should not be considered a weight loss procedure. For each outpatient liposuction procedure, you can expect to lose about 4 pounds or more of fat. Dropping 4 pounds of fat and reshaping the body can make a significant difference for Munster patients, and give them the sleeker silhouette they desire.
Am I a Good Candidate for Liposuction?
For a Munster resident to be a good candidate for liposuction, he or she must:
- Be in good overall health;
- Have problem areas with fat deposits that will not go away despite their best efforts at dieting and exercising;
- Be a non-smoker, or quit smoking for at least 2 weeks before your liposuction procedure and 2 weeks after, as smoking can interfere with both the procedure and recovery process;
- Have realistic expectations for the liposuction procedure; and
- Be in good psychological health.
