What is Liposuction?
Liposuction is an elective, plastic surgery procedure in which stubborn, unwanted fat deposits are permanently removed from your body. With liposuction, small incisions are made in your treatment area, and then a fluid is injected to anesthetize the area and make it easier to break up the fat. Finally, a small tube called a cannula is used to suction out the fat.
Is Liposuction Painful?
Like with all surgeries – elective or not – recovery from liposuction will incur some pain. When you undergo liposuction with Dr. Frank, he will give you post-operative instructions designed to help you heal properly and minimize the pain you feel. First, you will be asked to rest and stay off your feet for two days, as your body recovers. You will also be given medication for pain and inflammation. Make sure that you take every single dose of this medication – even if that means setting an alarm for the middle of the night to take a dose. It’s much easier to control pain if you stay on top of your doses than it is to play “catch up” if you miss a dose of your pain medication.
How Long Will I Be Swollen?
As with other surgeries, liposuction causes swelling as your body reacts to the procedure and heals. Immediately after your surgery, you will be dressed in compression garments to help control your swelling. You will need to wear these garments for 1 month following your Hobart liposuction procedure. After about 1 month, 70% of your swelling should have reduced, but it can take up to a year for the rest of the swelling to subside.
How Long Will It Take to See My Final Liposuction Results?
Many Hobart patients ask Dr. Frank how long it will take for them to see their final liposuction results. Unfortunately, there’s no definitive answer that Dr. Frank can provide you. It all depends on your unique situation and recovery process. While 70% of your swelling should subside within the first month of your procedure, it can take up to a year for the rest of the swelling to go down. So, depending on your unique recovery period, your final results may take up to a year to see.
