For Hobart patients and patients throughout the US, liposuction is a very popular procedure for removing unwanted fatty deposits in areas such as the abdomen, love handles, arms, thighs, hips, knees, neck, and chin. Just what makes liposuction such a popular procedure? Why do so many Hobart men and women undergo liposuction every year? And what do you need to know about liposuction before deciding to undergo the surgery? Read on for some interesting facts about liposuction, brought to you by board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Frank who has 20 years of experience.
Liposuction is a Safe and Easy Procedure for Removing Fat
Liposuction, which is typically an outpatient procedure, only takes a few hours to perform and is very effective at removing fat. During a liposuction surgery, Hobart plastic surgeon Dr. Frank will make small incisions in your treatment areas. He will then inject a fluid into those incisions areas to anesthetize the area and break up the fat cells. Finally, Dr. Frank will use a small tube called a cannula to suction the fat out of your treatment area.
Liposuction Permanently Removes Fat Cells
Many Hobart residents love liposuction because the procedure permanently removes fat cells. Your body has a finite number of fat cells, and with liposuction, some of those cells are removed forever. This means that once you have liposuction in problem areas, such as your hips, you will not tend to regain fat in that area. However, it’s important to note that fat cells have no limit as to how much fat they can store. So if you gain weight after having liposuction, you’ll see the effects in all areas including those treated with liposuction.

Liposuction Has a Relatively Easy Recovery Period
All surgical procedures require rest, but liposuction has a relatively easy recovery time. Immediately after your surgery, you will be placed in compression garments to help reduce swelling. Dr. Frank will instruct you to wear these specialized garments for one month following your liposuction procedure. After you are sent home you will be instructed to rest in bed for two days. After those two days, many Hobart liposuction patients can be on their feet and resume light activities. You will not be able to lift heavy objects or exercise for about 6 weeks after your liposuction procedure. While you will have some pain following liposuction, it’s tolerable, often with just over the counter pain medications. Approximately 70% of your swelling will dissipate about a month following your procedure, though it can take up to a year for all of the swelling to reduce and for you to see your final results.
